IGG Operations
1. General
This document is to specify the operation procedure for the IGG. Persons who operate the IGG are required to follow the guidelines mentioned as below.
2. Preparations for Operations
2.1. Reporting to each Departement
The engineer in charge shall inform all the parties concerned such as the duty officer responsible for cargo work, chief engineer, duty engineers, etc. of the operating procedure and operation schedule prior to starting hold pressurization or gas freeing operations.
2.2. operations
The engineer in charge shall thoroughly read the instruction books of the equipment to well understand the structure of the components of the equipment and operating procedure, before operating the equipment.
2.2.1. Preparation
Make sure that the machinery such as air blowers, fuel oil pumps, compressors of refrigerating system are well lubricated. before placing the IGG into operation, manually operate the valve on the following lines which require manual operation in accordance with the instruction books, and make sure that they are in the predetermined opening and closing status.
1) Air lines2) Inert gas lines
3) Fuel lines
4) Cooling water lines
5) Darin lines
6) Control air lines
Turn on the power to the control panel and all the instruments necessary for operation such as the O2 (Oxygen) content meter. dew-point hygrometer, etc. at an appropriate time before the start of operation.
3. Starting
3.1. Starting
Starting and shutting down operations of the IGG shall, in principle, be conducted at the control panel on the machine side. The predetermined operation mode shall be selected beforehand depending on the operation purpose (either aeration or inerting).
3.2. Operations
3.2.1 Preparations
The Engineer in charge shall place the IGG into operations in the following procedure and carry out the necessary adjustments. The detailed operation shall be in accordance with the instruction books for each ship.
1) Notify the duty engineer of ECR that the IGG will be started.2) Confirm that the control air pressure is in the normal range.
3) Start the IGG cooling sea water pump to supply the cooling water to the scrubber.
4) Confirm that the each instrument is set the predetermined value.
5) Switch each automatic regulating valve to a manual control mode as needed and make the IGG at starting condition.
6) Place the additional equipment necessary for starting the IGG into operation or make sure that they are in operation to confirm that all the starting requirement are fulfilled and then place the IGG into operation from the control panel.
7) Confirm that the sequence program starts and the predetermined operation takes place
8) Carry out calibration of each instrument such as the oxygen content water dew-point hygrometer etc
3.2.2. Inerting
1) Confirm that the equipment such as air blower, etc. start automatically and the pre-purge operation take place.
2) After pre-purge operation, carry out the predetermined ignition operation. For operation in accordance with the automatic operation program, confirm that an automatic ignition take place normally.
3) Carry out the necessary adjustment so that the specified oxygen density is obtained while keeping a watch to the combustion condition.
4) Place the absorbent type dryer and the refrigerating type dryer into operation in accordance with the respective instruction books to pass the inert gas through the dehumidifiers.
5) Confirm that the operating data of each part are normal
6) After the predetermined dew-point temperature is reached and the oxygen density becomes stable, switch the main selector valve from the atmosphere side to the tank or hold side to start supplying the inert gas.
3.2.3. Aeration
1) Place the adsorbent type dryer and the refrigerating type dryer into operation in accordance with respective instruction books to pass air through that dehumidifiers.
2) Confirm that the operating data of each part are normal
3) After the predetermined dew-point temperature side to the tank or the hold side to start supplying dry air.
4. Precautions during operations
The engineer in charge shall pay attention to the following during operation of the equipment.
1) Periodically check the various operating data and record the necessary items on the blank form set forth for each ship.
2) Carry out the necessary adjustment to maintain the oxygen density and dew-point temperature within the specified range.
3) Confirm that there is no abnormally with each equipment and machinery such as abnormal noise, vibration, etc
4) Watch the burning condition of the burner during the inerting operation, and pay particular attention to incomplete combustion.
5) If the main selector valve is automatically changed to the atmosphere side due to faulty equipment, confirm that the valve is positively changed and pay utmost attention so that the insufficient inert gas or dry air is not sent to the tank or hold.
5. Shutdowns
The engineer in charge shall shut down the equipment in the following procedure.
1) Inform the duty engineer that the IGG will shut down.
2) Switch the main selector valve from the or hold side to the atmosphere side
3) Stop the adsorbent type dryer and the refrigerating type dryer in accordance with the respective instruction books
4) Shut down the IGG with the Stop switch on the control panel and confirm that predetermined operation takes place in accordance with the stop sequence.
5) For inerting, make sure that the fuel to the burner is cut and the post-purge operation starts.
6) Stop the IGG cooling sea water pump and turn off the power to the control panel and the oxygen content meter, dew-point hygrometer, etc
7) Carry out all the necessary operations6. Regeneration of adsorbent type dryer
Carry out regeneration of the dryer in accordance with the instruction books as needed to resume the capability of the absorbent.
7. Operations in manual mode
Normally, the IGG runs on the automatic operation program: however, the engineer in charge shall be aware of how to operate the IGG in the manual mode for an emergency case
